Should I publish prices on my website?

For most local service businesses, yes. A price or a price range is the fact customers ask for most, and it is the sentence Google lifts into the answer box and the assistants quote in their recommendations. The business that publishes a current range becomes the source for "how much does X cost in my town," and the ones that say "call for a quote" are left out of that answer.

Why it matters more now

When prices lived only in phone calls, hiding them cost nothing. Now the question "how much does a crown cost" has an answer box, and "cheapest 10x10 storage unit in Russellville" has an assistant answering it. If your price is not on your site, the answer comes from a national cost guide or from a competitor, and you are not in it.

How to do it without boxing yourself in

  • Publish a range, and say what moves it: "Most brake jobs run $250 to $500 depending on the vehicle and whether rotors are replaced."
  • Date it. A range with "as of 2026" is a fact; an undated one looks stale.
  • Put it in a sentence, in text, near the top of the service page.
  • Keep it current. A wrong published price is worse than none.

Who should not

Businesses whose prices are set by a third party, regulated, or genuinely custom to every job. Even then, a starting price or a typical range usually exists, and stating it beats silence.

Questions people ask

Will competitors undercut me if I publish prices?

They already know your prices. Customers do not, and they are the ones searching.

Does a price range count for the answer box?

Yes. Google prefers a range with the factors over a single number with no context.

What about an estimate form instead?

Keep the form, but put the range above it. The range earns the click; the form captures it.
