Does schema markup help with AI search?
Yes, for the facts it carries. Structured data, the schema markup in your page code, tells Google and the assistants your business type, name, address, phone, hours, services, and credentials in a form they file rather than guess at. It does not make weak content rank, and it does not force a snippet. It makes the facts you already state on the page unambiguous.
What to add for a local business
- LocalBusiness, or the specific type: Dentist, Physiotherapy, MedicalBusiness, HomeAndConstructionBusiness, FinancialService, Restaurant, AutoRepair.
- Name, address, phone, geo coordinates, hours, and the URL, matching your Google Business Profile exactly.
- A Service node for each service page, with the service type and the area served.
- A Person node for the owner or the professional, with credentials and license numbers where they apply.
- FAQPage on pages that really have question and answer pairs.
- BreadcrumbList so the site structure is clear.
What it does for AI search
The assistants read the page text, but they also read the structured data, and when both say the same thing they trust it more. A page whose schema says Mortgage Lender in Twin Falls with NMLS numbers, and whose text says the same, is a fact. A page with schema copied from a template that says Article and nothing else tells them nothing.
What it does not do
It does not rank a page that has no useful content. It does not win a snippet on its own; the passage does that. And schema that contradicts the page, or your Google listing, hurts, because the whole point is agreement.
Questions people ask
Does my SEO plugin do this for me?
Partly. Rank Math and Yoast write Organization and WebPage nodes. The LocalBusiness type, the Service nodes, and the Person with credentials usually have to be set up by hand, once.
How do I check my schema?
Paste the page address into Google’s Rich Results Test or validator.schema.org. Read what comes back as a business would read it: is the type right, is the address there, are the services named?
Should every page have FAQ schema?
Only pages that have real questions and answers on them. Google ignores it elsewhere and may distrust the site.
