How to answer "how much does it cost" on your website
Answer the cost question with one sentence that gives a range and the main thing that moves it, dated: "Most brake jobs run $250 to $500 as of 2026, depending on the vehicle and whether the rotors need replacing." That sentence is what Google lifts for "how much does a brake job cost," what the assistants quote, and what turns a searcher into a caller who already knows the ballpark.
Why a range, not a number
A single price is either wrong for most jobs or so padded it scares people off. A range with the factors is honest, and Google prefers it because it answers the question completely. Follow it with a short list of what pushes a job to the top of the range.
The shape
- One sentence with the range and the year.
- Two or three factors that move it, as a short list.
- What is included in the price, and what is extra.
- The next step: get a quote, book, call.
If prices really vary
Give a starting price and a typical price. "Custom cabinets start at $X per linear foot; most kitchens land between $Y and $Z." Still a fact, still liftable, still honest.
What it does for the phone
People who read the range call to book, not to ask the price. The calls get shorter and the close rate goes up, because the price objection was handled before the call.
Questions people ask
Will competitors use my prices against me?
They can already call and ask. Publishing changes nothing for them and everything for the customer.
What if my prices change?
Update the sentence and the year. A dated range is expected to change.
Should the price be on the service page or a pricing page?
On the service page, near the top, where the person who searched the question lands. A pricing page can collect them too.
